What is the NEI Customs Operations Specialist Apprenticeship?+
The NEI Apprenticeship is a DOL-registered program that trains individuals for the Customs Operations Specialist occupation through structured on-the-job learning at an employer's site and online technical instruction through NEI's course platform. Participants earn wages while they learn and receive a DOL-registered credential and NEI's CCS designation upon completion.
Who can participate — employers or individuals?+
Both. Employers sponsor apprentices by providing on-the-job learning at their firm. Individuals enter the program as employees of a sponsoring employer. The program is designed to serve both audiences.
What credential does a graduate receive?+
Graduates receive a DOL-registered credential and NEI's Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation — an industry-recognized credential in customs brokerage and trade compliance.
When does the program launch?+
NEI is targeting a fall launch. The program is in active development — employer commitments are being gathered and DOL registration is in process. Share your interest now and we will reach out as details are confirmed.
Is this only for NCBFAA members?+
No. While the program was developed by NCBFAA's Educational Institute, participation is open beyond NCBFAA members. We want to make this accessible to as many qualified employers and candidates as possible.
